Yesterday March 14th,  the Minister of Environment, Amina Mohammed,  decided to pay a visit to Ogoniland in Rivers state for the second time this month, ahead of the proposed environmental cleanup of the area. Ogoniland has suffered many years of environmental degradation and neglect due to oil spillage and pollution.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has declared that students that are studying Medicine and Surgery in Nigerian universities will spend not less than 11 years before getting an MBBS degree.  Prof. Julius Okojie,the Executive Secretary of the Commission, made the announcement in a lecture delivered at the maiden inauguration of the University of Medical Science, Ondo State. In the lecture titled ‘Development of Medical Education: Prospects and Challenges‘, Okojie, represented by the Deputy Executive Secretary of the commission, Prof. Chiedu Mafiana, said increasing the study time was essential to ensure medical students are well prepared for the psychological demands of the game. He further added that medical students will spend the first four years in studying basic sciences in university after which they would proceed to the medical school to spend another seven years. Superstar Madonna has denied rumors making rounds in the media that she was drunk at her Saturday show in Melbourne. A number of tabloids and websites alleged Madonna was drunk when she took a swig from a prop bottle and then a flask during a clown bit during her show. Some characterized her behavior as “boozy.” while others claimed that Madonna was “drinking all her cares away.” It was alleged she was “guzzling booze” and “hit the bottle hard.” And the Daily Mail relied on a few fan tweets to report Madonna was “drunk.” That same tabloid further stated that she “swigged tequila from a fan’s hip flask.” But it’s all wrong. An official of the Lagos State University, Samuel Ambe, has been arrested by the police for allegedly killing his lover, Mata Jidonu. Thirty-two-year-old Mata was married to a lawyer, Sunday Jidonu, for whom she had three children. It was learnt that the suspect worked at the Department of Works and Physical Planning of the university. PUNCH Metro gathered that Mata, who lived in the Agric area of Ikogazebba, Badagry, had left home around 3pm on February 15, saying she was going to buy foodstuffs in the market, but reportedly headed for the lover’s house, a few kilometres away.   Her husband, Sunday, who had returned from the court earlier that day as a result of illness, became apprehensive when she did not return on time.
